About Sam
Sam Sharland is an artist specialising in the painted story.
With a lifelong habit of paying close attention, Sam trained in children’s book illustration at master’s level, where she learned to tell stories through pictures. But it was observational drawing that truly hooked her. Over time, she realised those fleeting, unfiltered moments were what she wanted to build her practice around.
Her paintings always begin with something she’s seen, and are designed to bring atmosphere, imagination, and emotion to the spaces they hang in.
After years working as an illustrator for interior designers and architectural firms, Sam has returned to a more personal studio practice. Today, she paints from observation and memory, creating work that blurs the line between documentary and daydream.
